Trash, rust, and water all settle at the bottom of the tank.

 

Is it a bad idea to use that gas and just be sure to hit high revs (12k) to try and clean out some of that junk? Or is that fuzzy logic?

 

I don't think that'll work.

I usually pull the tank and clean it every 5K miles or so.

 

Yeah and once u take off that tank and al lthat, you can use SeaFoam from time to time to dissolve any small particles before they get bigger...makes ur bike run great, cleans jets, etc.

 

Sea foam huh? I'll have to check that out. I don't think the tank has ever been cleaned on mine, unless that's part of the standard maintenance that the shop guys would have done when the previous owner took it in for service.

 

Yeah, cleaning it helps. I just re-painted mine and when I took the tank off I just emptied it out as good as I could and then refilled it with race fuel and it runs 500% better. So much more power it seems crazy but true! I've heard great things bout Seafoam too, but couldn't find it here in CO

 

Trip meter yes, but some of us don't have the mythical reserve tank or petcock.
I know when I hit about 130 I got about 10 miles before light comes on. I go fill `er.
