Default wheel bearing removal

Is there any way to remove rear wheel bearings without destroying the bearing or the wheel?

Removing the bearings isn't going to damage the wheel. However, the process of removing the bearings from the wheel requires that you apply pressure against the inner race of the bearing. This comes from either a bearing puller, or by tapping from the reverse side with a punch or an old screwdriver. Either way the inner racebeing pressed against the bearing ***** can damage them. Bearings aren't that expensive so replacing them shouldn't be an issue. Driving the bearings out with a punch takes about 5 minutes per bearing.

Why would you want to remove the bearing if they aren't bad? When I take the bearing out, I'm not too careful with the bearing because it needs to be replace anyway.

I'm changing wheels. The one I want to use doesn't have any bearings. The one I'm pulling off has perfectly good bearings and the bearings for these look like they are about $20 each... I'd rather save the $40 if I can.

There's nothing really special about the wheel bearings. Do a search on ebay for 6004-2RS. The 6004 is the bearing number for the front wheel bearing, and the -2RS means it has 2 rubber seals. If you pay more than $3 for them you're paying too much. As for the rear bearings, there are 3 of them. Assuming your going to use the same Flange Sub-Assembly (the part the sprocket attaches to), then you only need 2 bearings, and they're 6204-2RS. Do the same search and you'll find them as well. Depending on where you live, youmay find a local distributor of bearings. They're fairly common industrial size items used in lots of different things.I would make sure you get newdust seals, and you'll probably have to get them from Honda since they're application specific. The front seals are about $5 each (you'll need 2) and the rear is about $8 and you only need 1 of them.

Good luck.

$20 a bearing!!! I buy them out of this place in Oregon where they are $5 a bearing. You get the #'s off the bearing and this place can get them for a really good price.

I remember the name of the place now, McGuire Bearing Company. Here issome contact info if you want it(503.581.2000 or 800.945.4403).Reiterating whatI said earlier, they are out of Salem, Oregon. Another thing... like Idodirt said, give them the bearing #'s and the price will be just a fraction of Honda. I went to this place to by bearings for my car and for what I paid for all 4 was still less then just one (outer)bearing from Honda.
