What's this and how important is it to be hooked up to that?

It is an air pipe. There should be one on either side. Eventually it goes to your air solenoid that feeds your carbs.
I recommend keeping it connected.

Thanks bro!!!!!! I was having quite an ordeal with my bike and that was the problem the whole time. Completely over looked it...

There are ways to delete it, and make the bike run fine. But Hamlin is right, unconnected, your bike will act weird if you don't do the "pink wire mod"

I eliminated one of the two on mine, and i cant say i ever noticed a big difference.
