Default What killed my battery?

So guys, I need some help. I'm riding around last nite for about an hour and a half and suddenly I stall my bike (seems to happen whenever I am in a higher gear and come to a stop). Anyway, I can usually just start her right up again, but this time the battery didn't have enough juice to start the bike. I had to push the damn thing home, which was quite frustrating. I heard somewhere that the battery only gets charged over 5k rpms...is this true? Do I just need to ride it harder in order for the battery to get recharged?

Thanks for your insight guys.

It is true that the battery is not charging when in low to idle rpms. I would say at least 3k to help with the charging issue during low rpms. It doesnt mean that you have to ride harder, it just means that you dont have to shift out of 1st gear if you are moving at low speeds.

Pretty sure its your r/r. I just replaced mine with a gsxr one and it did wonders.

BTW, about the 5k charging. Your battery is getting charged at idle and up to 5k rpm. Not above 5k rpm. Your maximum power output at 5k rpm should be 15v. No more. and at idle, about 13. Change your r/r with a gsxr one you won't regret it.

ebay has them pretty cheap. any gsxr r/r from 2000 and up will work I believe, just make sure it has one plug harness coming out of it, not two. I recently did the conversion on my bike and its worked like a charm so far. I definitely recommend it as it will save you alot of headache later on down the road.

I have the exact same model bike as you. Can you tell me exactly which R/R you used? There are a ton on ebay...

dashle -
make sure your connectors on the R/R and stator aren't fried too. I replaced my R/R and noticed one of the pins in the connector was burnt/melted. Also, another member gave me a heads up to checkthe stator connector (3 yellow wire connector)under the seat...and it happened to be pretty toasted too. So I have to get that spliced/ replaced before I can get back on the road. If the connectors are bad or getting bad, I imagine they're not going to help any new parts you throw on the bike.

happy hunting
