Default Water in the gas

Everytime i wash my bike i get water filling up the area around the gas tank under the lid. so when i am done washing i have to use a extra towel to soak up the water sitting in the area under the lid. i took off the cap this weekend and saw that there is no place for a gasket to be put since i thought it might be a bad gasket. i did notice a tube in this area going down into the tank. i have no idea what it is for i thought it might be a drain for this but am not sure.
Any ideas or suggestions so i can not have to worry about this

the tube does go down and drain out the bottom of the tank..i dont think you are getting any water in your gas tank itself, it should all be draining out through that tube

Redz hit it right on the head, all that water your worried about will be draining thru a specialoverflow that runs to the bottom of the tank wherea rubber hose tranfers it down by the rear suspension. That's where the puddle comes from when you overfill your tank at the gas station.

Im sure it is possible for the tube to clog because it seems that it provides no positive drainage when
a build up of water occurs there. would it be safe to use a air hose a shoot some air in the tube and
see if anything comes out at all?

Yeip, and worst case, I'd run some kind of single strand (stiff) wire thru to see if it could be jarred free if the air doesn't work. Best of luck!

if its clogged....and your worried about it, then that pocket that should be draining should be completly filled with water and you should be able to see a big lake in there...

I used compressed air last night and i could not believe the amount of dirt that came out of that rubber hose, yes it was clogged and now it drains great so i dont have to worry about the water anymore Thanks.

Good Good, sounds like you should rip down the bike this winter and clean her out some. If you fuel drain is plugged, who knows what your air cleaner looks like
