Default Turned on last night... no longer...

I purchased a 600 f3 two days ago. It ran, i test drove and it was started dead cold in about 40 degree temperature.

I brought it home and left it to sit while i got the paper work done, the bike is in rough shape however while trying to turn on the bike now it cranks a little but won't start after trying a few times there was a huge backfiring spit that came out of the exhaust (loud enough that it scared me!) I left the bike alone and hit the forums.

The choke was on and fuel position was left on reserve accidently by previous owner. I turned it counter clockwise all the way to put it back on "On".

This is my first sport bike, i've had a yamaha cruiser before this and it was quite different.

I could use any ideas or suggestions. (I just wanted to take it on a quick test ride around the block) I will change the plugs soon and clean out the carbs. And methods i should try before i kill the battery?

Could be that you may have a dead cell in the battery or the battery is just old. Check the connections at the battery for any loose cables. Start by adding a gallon of fuel, if it gets below a certain point the reserve must be turned on and your not getting fuel.

1. If it was on reserve, can it be out of gas? Add some & switch petcock south.

2. Maybe a foul plugs with little too much of gas in the carb, cause a back fire. Pull the 4 spark plugs out to see what you got. Replace them if needed.

Hook the battery up to a float charge/tender...this was battery don't die out.

Most likely you flooded the carb, let it sit and try starting it next day.

Default it lives!!

Well guys thank you!! It turned out that the battery is old and the backfire stayed that way even while the bike was on and running.

I went out and bought a battery tender as you mentioned.

The idle had to be adjusted as the bike warmed up, but after it warmed up we let it sit for another few minutes and took it around for a spin after riding it for about 10 minutes in total the backfire completely stopped.

It's raining here this whole weekend but once the rain stops i'll replace the plugs as i believe they are old as well and is there anything else I should be getting done?

I'll have pictures up soon, i need mirrors and turn signals on it. The guy before was a moron and while trying to take out the fairings he tore some and lost a few screws and bolts... For the price i'm willing to make the investment. (Any locations on where to purchase for a good price?)

What color is the bike? If you have matte and the rear plastics aren't damaged il buy them from you

It is all matte black, however the plastics are in bad shape. That is one thing i want to start changing soon. I need a new rear ASAP as it is cracked.

Sorry!
