timming
i have a 97 cbr600f3 how the hell do you time it, where do the marks go and how do i know if its right, this bike is getting me pissed, it looks right by the book but it just cranks and some times back fires, also the hose i cant find where it goes is the coolent res siphine hose on the bottom of the coolent resivor tank or( overflow tank) please help.
The hose on the bottom of the reservoir tank should connect to the radiator -- just under the cap there's usually a 'spout' where that hose hooks to.
If the timing marks are aligned per the shop manual then you're golden -- when's the last time it ran and what did it do before it stopped running?

i changed the 2nd gear shift fork, it was running when i put it back togather. then it died and would only idel when i gave it gas it died, then i messed with the idel now it just cranks, maybe i need to reset the idel,so how do i do that. also what do i do if its flooded.
I am by no means a mechanic but have worked on my 97 F3. Mine had about 18,000 miles when it would crank, run for about 5 minutes (or until hot) then shutoff and wouldnt start back. While running it had a funny smell and would backfire. You need a real long phillips screwdriver to reach and clean all the carburators bowls real good. It fixed my problem and havent had any more trouble. Just a thought to help diagnose your problem.
