Default Think its time to replace the clutch, suggestions on brands & tips?

well finally got my bike on the road 2 weeks ago and have been enjoying it abunch! however my local dragstrip just opened up last saturday so i was excited and decided to race my bike, a 96 cbr f3. the dragstrip is only an 1/8th mile, first pass i did a soft 3-4k rpm launch to get used to it and ran a 8.1 at 92mph. 2nd pass i did a pretty hard launch from about 5000-5500rpm, slipping the clutch pretty hard and i ran a 7.8 at 96mph! fastest pass of the day, my last 2 passes were both 7.9s. anyway back to the point on the last pass i thought the clutch slipped when i went into 2nd gear. and today i ran about 3/4 of the way through first and second gear and felt like the clutch slipped again. so i think its time to replace it.

any suggestions on brands and were to get the best deal? or best clutch and oil combination?

any info would be great! thanks in advance!

Cameron

does anyone have any input on this? im in the same situation with the same bike. (35k) But I pulled moderately hard a couple of times on my way to school today. Second slipped out twice between 5-6k.
Is a full kit recommended or friction plates with no steel plates?
Brand names, prices?

Barnett, if you can find them. Some people say stay away from EBC, but I didnt have any problem with EBC in my old 87 Hurricane. Also, 40,000 miles, drag stips, I'd replace everything, including clutch springs, and the cable. Just my 2 cents.

Slipped out?Like false neutral? If so,not your clutch.A slipping clutch will let the revs climb and nothing or not much is happening. You could have worn engagement dogs on the tranny, bent shift forks,or it just didn't get fully clicked into the next gear .Clutches will slip more the more load is on them too,so mid revs not usually where you would see it.
I drag raced my F2 for 3 years, the clutch holds up very well, always used stock plates,Barnett's are very grabby, not good for fast launches.Normally friction plates are all that is needed, steel need either a LOT of miles or heat to warp them before they need replacing.
I could get about 200 passes out of my stock clutch.

same thing happened to me and i thought it was the clutch slipping. it ended up being a clogged fuel filter. on top of that my fuel pump had a bad connection and was not pumping at 100%. i replaced the fuel filter and straight wired and soldered the fuel pump wires and the bike pulls like new again.

if you do need a new clutch EBC is what i ordered, ive heard good stuff about em.

no i ment that it slipped in second gear, twice. around 5-6k rpm's. rpms jumped like the tire hit an ice patch, and then caught back up (re-engaged) to moving the bike..

Start with a new cable guys, I thought my clutch was done but it was just a gummed up cable, which eventually broke.

I had installed a new cable before this season started. so for me, its not that. and yes, it is properly adjusted. (with the lever pulled in, engagement of the clutch starts 1 inch from the bar)

Like cBrentb said I've also heard only good things about EBC, and the kit comes with some heavy duty springs which would be good for the dragstrip.
