Thermosensor Info
 

Anyone have any idea where I could find some kind of schematic drawings or specs of the thermosensor which connects to the temperature gauge? Something which has info like the dimensions and threads per inch, and that kind of stuff.

My gauge went bad (actually it's never worked ever since I've owned the bike), and I'm trying to explore my options. :icon_hunter:

It's basically a single wire, located to the sensor on the right of the bike,
just above the carbs, near the CCT.

I believe it is a thermo-couple, that allows more current to pass to ground,
as it heats up. Thus sending an analog signal to the guages.

There's no real repair to it, it is a replacement-only item. As such, there really is no
data I am aware of, on thread/pitch, etc.

Double-check to see if it is hooked up. It's a pain to get to and could have been
blown off, by a lazy mechanic.

Yeah, I found it last night after searching for like an hour or so. (hidden under a few hoses). I tested the gauge like the service manual told me to and the gauge didn't move at all. (Needle should move up to max when it's grounded with the power on.)

But, I was kinda thinking about just replacing the gauge and the sensor with an aftermarket "kit". The issues I would see with that is finding one with a sensor that is the same size and will screw in where the factory one is, and figuring out how to mount the new gauge, seeing as how I doubt I could find a gauge as small as the original one.

I would replace the gauge with a factory one, but I can't find one for less than $95.00, which I think is a bit steep for a gauge that is as simple as that one is.

I've seen a few sensors mounted into a radiator hose, via a "T" inserted in line.
Or just a straight, plastic nipple inserted, with the sensor mounted into a hole
drilled into the side.

Mounting the new guage is where you'll have to get creative. the flat on the right/left
side fairings, sort of where the fuse access is located, might be your best bet, there.

Oooh! Awesome idea! Definitely something to think about. Or I was also thinking that if I was going to spend 100 on a gauge, I may as well just do the conversion to the F4i dashboard. Seeing as how they both cost around the same.
