Default Testing Blinkers?

Managed to get the tail light/brake light working today and moved onto the signals. First of all, should the signals work with the bike not running, just like the tail light does? I cant seem to get the blinkers to work, is there a way to test the relay?

Thanks,

Blake

On the tail signals, they should only light up when in use. Unlike the front will have a constant "running light" and then intermittent when using the signal. As for running, no, like you mentioned they should work with the key on and the bike doesn't have to be running. How far have you traced wires, I'd worry about that before the relay.

I havent traced the wires yet, i wanted to make sure the bike could be not running first while i test them since im going through some engine issues atm as well. Ill test the connections this evening. All i know at the moment is that none of the blinkers are getting anything from the switch and the indicator lights on the gauge cluster arent either hmm.

Thanks,

Blake

Ok so i have been playing with it and thinking a bit more. From the manual it looks like its just the one 15 amp fuse that works nearly all the lights and the fuse looks good. Since my brake light, tail light and license plate light are working but my blinkers and front blinker/running lights and headlight are NOT, im assuming there is a break in the wires at somepoint. Now, what would be the best starting point? Expose the wires at the blinker switch on the clipon and test there?

Well just wanted to post that i found the problem last night after testing a bit more. It was actually the thin ribbon cable on the back of the gauge cluster, right as it curved to go in the cluster it was broken. I ended up using a small soldering iron to strip away the plastic layer, then used a small alligator clip to clip onto the exposed ribbon and soldered the wire to the clip, all is well.
