Default The tail... which one?

so i'm going through pages of f3's with different tails... i really like the r6 tail conversion.. but can't make up my mind which direction to take. are any easier than others or pros and cons for certain ones? also trying to make a decision on exhaust, under tail, under body or just barely from under to side.. and with the sssa sitting here to be added.. .i honestly like the under body but how in the hell do you get 4 into 1 w/ that little amount of space????????

i've thought about it too long.. maybe some imput of "this is a big pain in the ***" would push me one way or the other

all help greatly appreciated.. here are a few pics of it now.

pics also of bikes w/ teh exhaust and tail i really like.. the how part it what's kickin my ***...

for most tail conversions, you'll need to chop off the f3's subframe and weld on the one that goes with whatever tail you choose.
An undertail exhaust is really way more hassle than its worth, if you want it under the body(without header modification), you'd probably have to run with no muffler, which sounds badass but can hurt your engine and your ears.
id say your best bet if youre going with a sssa is to do it like in the 2nd and 3rd pic, kick it up right after the foot peg.

whichever way you go just remember.

You'll have to modify the subframe for most tail conversions. You can't simply cut yours off and weld on a new one like Sjona says because you have a steel frame, most newer bike tails use aluminum subframes (can't weld the two). It depends on what you want to do. Knifemaker's F2 came out amazing. I love that bike - and I love the tail on it. Just figure out what you want to do. Pick one, and go from there. None are going to be harder than the other. All of the ones you've pictured are modified subframes (cut/grind, then welded differently) with Knifemaker's being the most modified. He used the original top bar of the subframe, and then made his support bar

If you do a bobber, you don't have to worry about fitting a tail, but you have to worry what you'll do with all of the electronics, the battery, and tail light. If you do a one off tail (like knifemaker's), you have the freedom to do whatever you want, it's more work to shape your own tail as opposed to not having one, or using an existing one, but you get to configure it to your liking. If you decide to put an existing tail on there (like a 600rr), you'll have to modify the subframe in order for it to adequately hold the fairing, but it usually makes it easy as far as setting up your electronics, you'll have a tail light figured out, most likely a battery tray, space for R/R, relays, etc.

Pick your poison.

Thanks guys.. And Btw the bobber..It's my bike I want to put a little more back there... The f4i or the r6 seems the way I'm going. So is that header like knife maker used readily available? Looks like skip underside exhaust! Again thanks for the input. - wakesurf

I was in the same predicament with my 98' F3. I decided on an Air-Tech race solo seat with the hope of making it look more streamlined as well as be a 1-2lbs lighter after shedding the stock seat. Air-Tech tells me it's being made as I type this and I should get it in about 3 weeks or so. I'll let you know more once it comes.

In reference to your question, I like the F4i with carbon fiber. It's classy, sporty and unique IMO.

woops, forgot about that one
but i would agree, modifying the f3's tail would probably be the best bet. And im pretty sure if you go with the f4i's tail you wouldnt have to modify the subframe.

Oh! Sorry, didn't realize it was your bike. I like bobbers though. He's used an OEM 954 header IIRC. Obviously, it was cut, chopped, and welded. There are a lot of ways to have a muffler underneath that bike. What you want to do is look for the diameter of the header pipe and the center-center-center distance to see what pipes will work for you.

Which R6 tail did you want to use? 03-current are all aluminum. There are stunt subframes made out of steel made for them though...

Thanks man. I,too, have changed a million times on tail ideas. First I was going to do an RC8 tail. Then I changed my mind and wanted to do an 08+ CBR 1000rr tail. Then I wanted to do a current 600rr tail. Now I'm thinking I may do a one off.... I just don't know.

BTW, I know before I said 03+ R6 subbies are aluminum. That was what I found on a forum, but I just saw some pictures of a 99 subframe. I'm almost certain it's aluminum too (based on the box tube and gussets). It wouldn't surprise me if they all were aluminum. Just wanted to clear that up.

Like I said earlier, I'd build onto yours. You've already chopped and welded it - you know how it goes.
