Default Tail Conversion Options

i am debating changing out the tail on my bike. i know with the newer bikes the tails are on a sub frame that just unbolts. this would be nice as all i would have to do would be to weld on mounts at the correct angle and location.

obviously the option of converting to a 97/98 tail is there with just needing a new seat, fairings and re wire for the newer lights. all the parts are plentiful as well. this would get my itch for a "newer, more modern look" done and fit the bill, but i am not just a bolt on kind of person.

i am more than capable when it comes to grafting in body panels and i understand that with another model tail this is a probability. i have searched and looked at a few tails but have one that says "thats the one" undertail exhaust isnt an option because i dont want to mess with the swing arm at all.

lets hear your take. keeping within the limits i am willing to do, what would YOU do for a new tail?

I'm in the midst of an 03 CBR600RR Tail myself. My bike is a 95 that already has the 97-98 tail conversion. Looks better but that darn banana seat is hideous. Also, having one tail piece rather than three is always a plus. I've heard the 05-06 RR tail is easier than the 03-04. Personally I like the 03 better though. If you really want to get creative, I saw a guy who put on a Ducati tail that looked pretty awesome. There's also Valkyrie's whole R1 conversion. He did a nice job on his tail. He molded it into the preexisting fairings. Personally i think an F4i tail would look good on the F3. It's still big enough to flow with the bodywork, while still having a double seat and a cleaner look. If you have good fab skills, pick any tail and just make it work.

I put the 97 98 tail on my 96 after destroying the old one on the road and guard rail. The previous owner had given me the 97 side tail sections and tail light assembly when I bought the bike so I put that all on and eventually changed the seat but still don't have the center tail piece (just modified the old one to kind of work) I still found myself longing for a different looking tail. I still really like the look of the 97 tail especially compared to the old 96 tail, but it still just doesn't look very modern Compared to a newer sport bike. Theres good info on here about doing 600rr and, f4i tails and as long as the angle is right they look great. I had thought about trying a 04 zx6r tail because i still think this is one of the coolest looking out there but never got around to it. More recently I stuck the tail of my 04 ktm 300 exc on it and it took on the appearance of some sort of evil super/hypermotard machine and i really liked how that looked. But now with the path I want to take it down it will be a long process. When it comes down to it, Just do what looks good to you.

go for something custom IMO. Newer RR undertail with exhaust is nice, go with a tail from another bike manufacturer?

You can make anything work if you really want it.
