starting problems..
 

so i just bought a 98 f3 and i've been having a blast riding it, but the other day as i was riding it started to jerk as if it was stalling and the gauges started to flicker. before i knew it i lost all power to the bike. I know for a fact the battery works, i had it checked and the gauges still have the time displayed, but when i turn the key nothing happens. no power and nothing turns. any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated!

I would check all connections/grounds first. One of my connections up near the headlight came undone and was acting the same way.

When you're referring to the Gauges still having the time displayed, what are you talking about ? Did the previous owner convert the bike to have gauges from another bike, like an F4i maybe ? The F3 has all analog gauges and no clock.

yeah they have f4i gauges on them and the time is always displayed on them but nothing turns on with the key.. ive been going over all the electrical and have been taking everything apart but it all looks okay

I don't know how your bike is wired since it's been modified. The clock could be wired directly to the battery. If everything is off, then I'd check the main 30A fuse. It's near the battery, just in front of the bracket that the rear of the tank is bolted to. It's part of the main relay.

Well, that's great, but that's only half of it. You've fixed the symptom, but you haven't found the cause. A blown fuse, particularly the main fuse means that something shorted out to the frame. You also know that it's not something that's tied to any of the other fuses since they didn't blow. I'm thinking probably something with a fairly heavy wire.
