Default Should I turn the fuel switch to the off position when not using it?

My dad hasnt ridden a motorcycle since before I was born, but he strongly believes that I should turn my fuel switch from on to off when ever Im not riding it, and i dont mean like over the winter, but like even over night.

He says something about it flooding the engine?

please and thank you

I really don't know which way is "right" but I think this is one of those personal preference things. I turn mine off every time I turn the bike off, with the exception of when I know I'm getting back on within soon. Like if we stop for dinner or stop at home for a break I'll usually leave it on. When I ride it to work and it's gonna sit for six hours, I turn it off and when I put it away for the night I turn it off.

I never turn mine off and it always fires right up.
If your carbs suck (Needle/seat/float probs), you may find you need to turn it off.
Other than that, you only need to turn it off if your: transporting it, storing it, running the carbs dry, or pulling the tank.

Do I turn mine off... no I don't. Is it the right thing to do, yes you should turn it off when you're not using the bike. This includes every night. It's the safe thing to do.

Had so many bikes with gravity feed carbies & on a lot of them it could cause starting problems (flooded motor) so I do it without thinking about it, habit that's hard to break. The manual say's turn it off, but hey, their only the manufacturer's.

when i had motocross bikes i always had to do that cause they would flood out or leak gas like a bitch, but the cbr has never given me any issues when leaving the fuel on so i leave it on.
