Default Shipping?

I am moving across the country and I need some advice on how to pack up my F3. My roommate has a pickup and we think it will fit in the bed but we have no loading ramps to get it up there. I am having several 6x7x8 containers dropped off for my stuff and I can put the bike in there but I am unsure how to secure it without using the whole container. Maybe I could put it on a pallet or something? Anybody else gone through this lately? And no, I dont want to ride it 1300 miles across the midwest [sm=badidea.gif] Thanks guys!

Ride It !!

I know you said you didn't want to ride it, but I think you should reconsider it.

In the fall of 2005 I purchased a 1994 CBR 1000F in MN and rode it home to S. Florida. I then bought a 1997 CBR 600F3 in Bristol, TN and rode it home to S. FL. I then bought another 1997 CBR F3 in Milwaukee, WI and rode it home to S. FL. You don't know what you're missing. It's something you'll remember for a long time. It's a great experience. If your roomate is going along with a truck anyway, then it's even easier as you don't have to carry anything.

Good Luck

The Uhaul is the best idea. I'm not sure what they're like for a one-way rental but they're super cheap for a "local".

It should fit in the bed of a full-sized pickup. Just get a 2x12 for a ramp. It's easier if you back it up to the base of a hill to cut down some of the angle.

Uhaul doesn't do one-ways for the bike trailer. I recently hauled a bike from Texas to Alabama (Man, Lousianna and Mississippi roads are horrid.)

I would imagine he would run into the same issue with a covered uhaul trailer. :-(

Actually it wouldnt be too hard to secure in an enclosed trailer with a couple of tiedown straps - however even those trailers are 500-600 for a one way rental. Same goes for having it shipped, seems to be in the 600-700 dollar range. I have a few days off so I am just going to ride it out there. Will be the longest ride i've ever done - hopefully I will regain feeling in my *** sometime before christmas...

That's the spirit !!! You Go Man ! If you've got a few days, look at Google Earth. It's a great tool for visualizing the path that you'll take. You can also find smaller roads like State Roads and other less traveled highways that on a bike are pretty near as fast as taking the interstate, but much more enjoyable. It'll be worth the efforts.

Congratulations on your decision. Take photos and let us know how it went.

Sadly since I am somewhat pressed for time I am going straight down I-70 as fast as I can without getting pulled over (hopefully). I really dont think there is any scenic way through Kansas so might as well get it over with... but I will take pictures and post them in the Road trip section...
