Selling my CBR
Hello,
I'm not sure if anyone can help me, but I have a question about selling my CBR. I have a 1997 (22K on it) and I have no idea what price to ask. I realize the price could be whatever anyone wants to pay for it, but I have to start somewhere. I'm in Maine and I have seen other 97's 98's that I thought were in rough shape and they are selling for 2K. I've had mine 10 years and I feel it is mint condition (but doesn't everyone think that about their bike) I absolutely needs nothing. Less than 300 miles on new tires, chain, sprockets, carbs just cleaned. It will need rear brake pads next season, but that is really it. Sorry if this is a hard question to answer.
I was also wondering when someone wants to buy it, how do you handle them trying it out? I just don't want anyone to take it for a ride. I've always been my bikes from a dealer so obviously they are insured and seemed a bit more relaxed.
Thanks for any info and sorry if this has been asked before...I did do a quick search.

retail for these is typically anywhere from 2-2.5k
start a little higher from that so theres room haggle. Actually just posted mine on CL yesterday for 2800.
as for test rides, not many people will buy a fully functioning bike without riding it first. All youve got to do is ask for cash in hand for someone to test ride it. that way if they drop/wreck it youve been paid already and they cant weasel out of it.

Cash in Hand to ride it so long as they have a MC license. If they don't have a MC endorsement, they're not riding it anywhere while my name is on the title regardless of cash or not.
Thanks for the replies. I also totally forgot to check out KBB and the numbers were pretty close to what you had said sjona2011. I also forgot about the motorcycle license. Seems silly, but I'm not so sure I would of thought to ask!
I hope there is still plenty of season left for someone to buy it.

Just because they have cash I would not let them ride. What I would do is sell the bike and get the cash in your hand. Then give them maybe an hour or so to change their mind. That way your not at risk.
