that's a myth that people tell so they feel better about riding hard on the streets. it's not good to never open it up, but you really don't need to ride your bike hard all the time. how good is it going to be for your bike when you're going 120 around a blind corner and slam into the car pulling out of thier driveway?? i think it's okay to push your bike to a certain point on the street, but you have to make sure you are going slow enough to have a good reaction time for anything that could be in your way up ahead, you don't want to be dragging your knee around every or in my opinion any corner on the street. save your really hard riding for the track or you may not live to tell about it. just my .02

on the street for me it really depends on if i know the road or not, if i know there's a blind driveway ahead or a dog that's always out loose on that particular street. on streets i know really well and know where opsticals might be i usually ride at about 80% of my capabilities so i have enough reaction time if something pops up that's not usually there. on roads i don't know i probably ride more like 65-75% depending on the road cuz i don't know if there's a blind corner coming up or if the turn is going to get more intense further into it, etc. when you're out riding just keep in mind the deer that's going to run out in front of your bike and how much time you are going to need to slow down and swerve around him.

this might help ya

also, if this is ur first bike....start off slow!!!! i have seen to many newbie accidents cuz they tried to push to much to fast, don't try to keep up, go at your own pace. take it easy learn to control the bike before going all out!!! you have plenty of time to increase your speed and skills on your bike, that bike should last you a long time, you don't need to use all the power it has in the first month.

i'm a new CBR f3 owner with bolt ons. this is a rocket compared to the 04' 250R ninja and sometimes when half throttle from 1st to 2nd i forget that i'm riding the CBR and the ninja instead it has alot of power even under 10k. So what i committed myself to do now is drive it like a cruiser and get to know it first before getting on it.

i'm 23 and i'd never thought i'd say it but i feel 10x better going 160 in a car than i do on the bike lol. i never WOT the bike in 1st but 2nd+ i do. funny thing is i wanted to get an 600RR or Fireblade glad i didnt.
