Yep, it's broken.

Broken trip meters are super common on the 95-98 gauges. Best bet is to buy another one and treat it very gently from the moment you get it.

Don't even bother with trying to fix it because it's the housing that the spring is resting it. It always breaks and when that happens there is nothing you can do as the housing is molded into the gauge itself.

Ever owned a fox-body Mustang?

Yeah, it's just like the ashtray door! Only Honda doesn't make an aftermarket fix for it...

Bastards! Sorry bro...

Aint no joke there man. I;ve had my 88 for 8 years and the door is still mint, but i bought a 91 coupe and 3 days later it broke, then my 93 broke 3 weeks later.

Haha, that sucks man. Nice on the 88 though.

I'm looking for asweet 83-86 square light. I'm not buying another Mustang until I find one. They're my favorite. I've had an 83, 86, and a 91. I love the seats in the 87-93's but I like the rest of the square lights better... they're sweet and so hard to find in a decent conditon.

My only complaint on the Mustang is the unibody - dangit!

I tore mine apart trying to fix it. Tried epoxy, glue, even fiberglass to piece the shaft behind the button back together and no dice. Gave up and put it back together without the shaft at all. If you find an aftermarket fix, let us know
