Default removing the seat

Apologies for wasting space with a second request for help concerning my cbr 600 98 model. But i thought this area may be more suitable.

Can someone please explain to me, in as much detail as possible, how to remove the seat of my cbr? I desperately need to get to the battery to give it a charge, but for the life of me have not been able to work out how to get the damn seat off the frame. Already broken a side panel and almost bent the key trying to force the helmet holder mechanism near the left rear of the bike to turn more than it should.
Please help!

Their is a black plastic screw that is attached to the front of the side fairing, twist it, It won't come out, its attached to the fairing itself, but it will allow you to pull the fairing off. I believe their are 3 tabs that just pull out on either side. This will reveal the subframe and the bolts that attach the seat to it. Remove the two bolts, one on each side, lift up the back of the seat and it should slide right off.

Yep, Triax is right. Let me elaborate though...

The screw that he is talking about is black plastic and is located at the front of the rear fairings, just above the pegs. Gently pull on the bottom of the fairing while turning the screw with a flat screwdirver, it will pop out. Do the same for the other side.

Once the tabs on both sides are released, there is6 "bosses" (tabbed piece of plastic molded on the fairing that slides into a rubber grommet fixed to the bikes frame). The first one is in the front, top corner of the fairing, the second is just below the seat where the passenger seat begins and the third is just ahead of your tail light. They are the same on both sides, just gently pull on them and they will come out.

Once you've done that, you'll plainly see the seat bolts on the frame below the seat.

So I will take off the side panel rear fairings, then all i need to do is unscrew a couple of bolts and the seat will then pop out, revealing beneath it the battery....How do I get in the battery cover??And is it safe and/or possible to jump start the bike via a car battery?

When my mate and I earlier tried took the left side rear panel off there was a clear tube sticking out that seemed to go nowhere further backwards but following it back up the bike led to a strange cylinder with plunger unit...what was that??And did we **** something to do with that little pipe, I mean, is it a breather or should it not be loose???

Just to add some depth to the story and to try ascertain whether the more mechanically minded bikers out there believe, like myself, that the problem lies with the battery. I have used it sporadically for short trips in the low temperatures here over the last few days and nights. Each time I started her, it took a few strokes to hit bullseye rather than the normal instant power up. This morning i used the choke for 5 seconds then pushed it out and rode the 2 minutes to work, leaving the bike outside in the cold for another 7 hours. AFter work I jumped on and pressed fire and despite the attempts of turning over and over, nothing happened in the firing department. gradually the rate of turn over went down and then i reverted to pushing...does that sound like I emptied the battery of charge and didn't give it a chance to re charge?

do yourself a favor and spend the $50 (or so) on a service manual. Or download it from somewhere.

As far as your charging system goes, charge your battery and do this:

My manual is unfotunately 120 miles away at my mother's place. She quoted me some instructions from it but her message was garbled and didn't help my cause very much.Thanks for the link, i will take a peek if i can get this bastard started tomorrow.

After you pull the seat off, there will be a cover over where the battery sits. Theres 3 screws holding the cover on, i believe 2 are 8mm, and one is 10mm. You could try pulling the battery and getting it tested at an automotive place like autozone. Also, a battery tender wouldn't be a bad thing to get. Plug it in when you store the bike at your place and it'll keep it at full charge.

i jumped my batt using a car first give the car a run around the block or two rev the engine a couple times then shut it off .connect to the car bat first then to the bike i think it is neg to pos . then open your choke then give it a buzz. if this is not enough juice n u have a batt tender like mentioned above try to charge it if no charge isholding u need a new batt . but dont try to jump the bike with car on this can fry all yuh circuits. if u wanna speed it up take it to a shop like mentioned n they can tell u if u are in a hurry

you can always put it in second gear with the clutch in, get on it and coast down a hill and pop the clutch. It will turn the motor over then just ride it around for twenty minutes and the battery should have a decent charge on it. If that doesn't work, Sorry because now you're at the bottom of a hill with a 400lb bike.

Am I understanding you correctly?? Are you saying to connect the neg of the car to the pos of the bike (and presumably the pos of the car to the neg of the bike)???? If so, I hope you enjoy frying your electrical system on both vehicles.

Positive always goes to positive and negative always goes to negative.
