Default regulater/rectifier aftermarket part melted

ive had a issue with charging problems so ive i ordered a new regulator/rectifier and borrowed a mate alternater meter voltage checker the old recitifier wasnt charging so i fitted the new one and the meter showed it was charging the battery

after a short ride around and getting fuel i arrived home and could smell melting plactic

remove the right rear side panel to find the new after market recitifier and completly melted...

now im confused on how this could happen

either faulty rectifier
or a electrical issue
or faulty wiring

is there any one who could help with this thanks

heres a image of the part

They go out all the time. Buy a OEM replacement. The aftermarket ones I've had only lasted about a year. The OEM have lasted 3 OR 4 years.

Check your stator for a short to ground. A bad stator can cook a r/r, quickly.

Put the voltmeter on ohm setting. Black lead to a ground, red lead to each of the yellow wires. Look to see that there is no continuity (open circuit) between the yellow wire and ground. If there is any reading other than an open circuit, your stator is no good.

Ok got me a multimeter the recifier is broken 1 pin give no reading at all the other to connection have 0.5 between both

Made my to the stator pins I have resistance between 2 but one pin I get nothink at all checked voltage n between 2 im getting good 20+ volt at idle but the same one im getting no reading at

The pin is burnt out and the around plastic area and the pin is the same one on the rectifier call it pin 3 n yellow pin 3 both of then give no resistance readings

Does this mean I have a short some where or a faulty stator

Also if the rectifier is connect it keep blowing my 30amp solinoid fuse

Thanks again jamie

I've just gotten to the bottom of my own electrical problem.

Changed the battery, then the R/R, then followed the wires back from the stator to under the fuel tank and found this waiting for me!

Looks like something has been shorting and melting the connector block!

have a look under the tank and check the block mate, you will have to do this to run the test on the 3 yellow wires anyway.

Good luck.
