does anyone own a radar detector that really works good im in south carolina and these cops hitting me hard with tickets left and right, i want to get a radar detector but would like to know one that works good thats affordable, can someone recommend one it be great. THanks

 

How about slowing down? Thats always an idea! Bikes are dangerous enough at speed limits more or less speeding!

FYI Cops and turn on and off! They can have it off and if it looks like someone is speeding, they'll turn it on and by the time you see that he's clocking you! Its to late to slow down, he's already got your speed!

 

The on and off thing is pop radar. Actual K and Ka bands take a while to boot up, like a computer. I have a Escort passport 8500 X50 in my car, never bike mounted it yet though. It works phenominally(sp?). Saved me from a few nasty tickets.

And the pop radar - Since it takes such a short time to "boot up", it is not accurate. So if you get pulled over and he tries to give you a ticket using pop, that is ILLEGAL. Police officers cannot issue tickets from a clocked speed using POP radar...

Just a tidbit of info.

 

Wow, What state you live in?

I write tickets all night long with "pop" radar. If it looks like a car coming at me is speeding. I just turn on the radar and within 1 sec. I can see his speed. This "pop" radar is not illegal in Indiana, and most likely among other states. And besides, how will you know I turned on and off the radar? Got a detector? In the state of Indiana they are not illegal to own or have. But if you have one and get pulled over for having one, more often than not your getting a ticket.

oh wow didnt know pop was legal for other states. Im in NY, and yea ive got the passport 8500 x50. Works great. I know if i get pulled over ill be gettin a ticket, but i havent yet

simple and cheap alternative is to slow down. You don't get anywhere faster by speeding. Whatever time you make up by speeding will just catch you later at a red light or in traffic. The only time you make up for it is on the interstate doing a trip so try to help the poor reputation that bikers have for hauling *** everywhere and driving like jerks and just slow down. Use better time management and leave the house earlier to get to work or wherever you are going so you don't have to speed to get there.

 

i think you guys are 110% correct but here in this **** hole town tickets pay for everything newthe county puts up, buildings ect. i just got two tickets one in my car for 71 in a 65 never happened before thats petty and one on the bike for 52 in 45 which i think is bull to, there is a whole lot of other criminal things going on then giving me a speeding ticket,
Thin said he rights tickets all night, with all do respectyou cant truthfully say that you never ever go over the speed limit on your bike whether its a little or a lot, or even speed in your cruiser w/o your lights for no reason, cuz i see it all the time in every state that i go to coast to coast, and also that there is with out a doubt nothing else to do all night but right tickets. I have buddies that are state troopers they only right tickets but thats all that they are there for, i respect the law and thats why i pay and not run. INDIANA and a few other states actually still use POP radar and it is legal for ticket writing all others its illegal

 

there is a new product about to hit th market i think some people have it already its called radar block or something of that nature ,what is does when the police send out there signal to pick up your speed it shoots back nothing to them so its like you were never there . funny thing is a cop invented it i guess he will be inventing the new guns for police when everyone has them . anyways be careful man summer is near will spring atleast thats the best time to ride in my opinion besides fall with the leaves on the ground .

and dont get caught up in what a police can give you a ticket for , unless you have money to waste dont try to find out cause theres a million and one reasons a cop can pull someone over for n fork out tickets .

 

i heard about that, iv been doing research onall these gimmic radar detectors and there crazy prices. i havnt been able to find anything yet on the blocker but is it even legal in all states, im sure thinslice wont like that idea,lol (just joking thinslice) i will be carful but like everyone knows sport bikes already have a bad reputation so like you said im sure if im not speeding theyll be bored enough to find something to write me up on. There really arent to many sport bikes out here that ive seen yet but maybe its just to cold for them. If it aint snowing or raining im out there its a hobby to me and my second love now.

 

This one looks really cool, actually designed for bikes but I can't attest to how well it works. A bit on the spendy side too...
