Ok, finally have buttoned everything back together on my no longer $500 95 F3. Here's a list of things I've found

  • OEM engine covers & rear fairings stolen and replaced with mismatch unknowns
  • Front axle spacers wrong size, causing front brake rotor to hard lock on forks
  • 2 front axle bolts missing
  • Fiberglass insulation on 3 of 4 spark plugs (don't ask me how)
  • DAI ram ducts into the air box *super glued* on
  • Rear fender assembly cracked and held together with zip ties
  • Both rear turn signals duct taped together and onto the fender
  • Kickstand *bent* to adjust to lowering the bike
  • 1 Rear brake caliber mount screw snapped and super glued together
  • Liquid gaskets used to mount the oil pan
  • Mismatched rattlecan paint job (I swear in some places 1/2" thick)
  • When attempting to force the mismatched fairings into place, anything including steel wire used to tie them down.
  • Bare bulb homemade led 'kit' installed, grounding out and draining battery
  • Petcock positions Forward - Down - Back (someone explain to me WTH they mean???)
  • Various missing bolts / screws everywhere
I bought a OEM left lower fairing off Ebay, planning to practice my paint skills on that. But now, that piece will be the beginning of a whole new set of OEM fairings to replace the current ones. Bike is back in riding shape.

  • Raised it back from the PO's height, replacing the dogbone and raising the front forks (5'3")
  • cleaned the carbs (ugh)
  • changed the plugs
  • replaced the DAI ramjet
  • replaced the rear fender
  • replaced all the fairing screws with OEM replacements (if they fit)
  • replaced every missing screw with Pepboy replacements
  • replaced the front axle (with correct spacers)
  • replaced the rear brake caliber mount
  • Replaced the air filter
  • Replaced the DIY led 'kit' with a remote controlled real LEDs
Now... to make her pretty again

Oh and I won't go into the wire harness... Found lines being crushed, flat up against the carbs and engine. When I really feel like a long afternoon I'll go out there with my voltmeter, trace everything and re-wrap it with heat shrink tubing

Give me a clue: how the **** is the petcock supposed to work?

When I posted a vid, one of the guys said "well it looks like your petcock is in the off position". Mine goes Forward, Down and Back. If I knew what the positions meant (and verified they worked) I'd leave her be. But right now I don't know Richard. So do I need to overhaul the petcock (damn tired of unplugging the hoses on it).

it sounds like yours is rotated -90 degrees. It should be up forward back. Up is reserve, forward is off, down is on.(if im not correct here please tell! I'm going off memory here)

So your forward would be reserve, down would be off, back would be on.

maybe...just maybe...
