Default Oil Consumption issue...

when i bought the bike the CCT was loud as could be and the paint was horrible. other that that i got the typical "She runs great and the previous owner took great care of her" line. the guy only had the bike for 5 months, but it was his first bike and he wanted a 1L bike. i checked the fluids while looking at it and the oil was brand new. then i got the "i just had the oil changed" line.

well after i started riding it i checked the oil and was a quart low from 3 weeks of riding. she isnt marking her teritory at all, and there is no smoke on start up or at idle, nor is there smoke with throttle in neutral. i could be blowing smoke at higher RPM under load, but without someone riding with me i cant tell.

when i noticed i had a miss at low idle i decided to chage the plugs. i found 3 of the 4 plugs finger tight and 2 and 3 had oil on the outside of the plugs. not much, but enough to bother me. my guess is the valve cover gasket needs replaced.

my question is this...

do F2's and F3's have a known oil problem? the bike is just under 36k on the odo and runs much better sincei have started taking care of her, but if there is a common problem i can take care of it would be nice...

No, these bikes don't have any issue with burning oil. How many miles during those 3 weeks ? Is it time for an oil change again ?

Valve stem seals? Smoking on decel from high revs?

all four plugs were different. some dark grey, one white, one perfect. thats not a bad idea... i was thinking about rebuilding the top end on this bike this winter... maybe a full rebuild. money isnt free as we all know, so time will tell...

well last thursday i rode the hardest and longest i have ridden this bike since purchase and it consumed zero oil. seems that things are fine in it. 145 miles in one day, the fan came on by itself the first time and it drank zero oil.

this makes no sense to me, but im not complaining.

There should be a sticker on your left subframe right above the pass. peg.

10-40 dead dinosaurs without friction modifiers (energy conserving).
