octane rating
I dont understand cuz my cars calls for 91 and when i first bought it i tried 89 and that **** sputtered down the street i had to sphifen it out,IT has a 11:1 compression. Then our bikes if im not mistaken have a 13:1 so how is it possable to run such low octane and not feel it w/ such a high compression ratio. I never yet put anything less then 91 but gas is getting up there again if you guys are running 87 w/ no proplem then im ganna start to as well.
Maybe because the F3's are actually 12:1 compression. I run regular gas 87 Octane in both our F3's with no ill effects. Running in my 1000f too.

It's easy to tell if you need a higher octain. Just run the bike at about35 mph and put it in fourth gear and roll on the gas. If you hear knocking - you need a higher octane fuel. That's that. You don't have to be going slow or at low RPMs per say, but loading the engine at higher RPMs will make it harder to hear.
I've run mine on regular with good results, but usually us mid grade.

F2s/3s have lower compression than newer bikes, therefore higher octane gas is a waste of money.Higher octane gasdoes not "clean out " your motor either.Higher octane gas does not yield more power either.Quality of fuel is important ,however. All higher octane does is prevent detonation in higher compression motors (12.5:1 and up).
