Hello everyone! I'm a beginner in all this and I have some problems with my bike. I recently bought my first bike, a 98 CBR 600 F3, and I've only ridden it a couple times because I have troubles cold starting it. Which usually ends up draining my battery, which is brand new. I give it gas to start as well, but it still doesn't start most of the time. The times it starts (with a lot of patience) is when I boost the battery, and i'm still giving it gas while starting. The owner before said he had trouble starting it as well but always managed to start it without draining the battery. I'm wondering if you guys know what could be wrong or if you've had similar problems, and suggest any methods of fixing it. I wanted to see if I can get help here before going to a shop.
Thanks for you're help!

First off, do not give it gas while trying to start it. All using the throttle will do is make it not start. (leans it out when you're trying to richen it)
The choke (enrichener) should always be used when cold starting. (most carbed bikes won't start without it)
Other than that... it could be a few things. Your choke may be sticking on the carbs, even if it seems like it's working.
Could be many other things, too.

All bikes have their own stating routine's, even bikes of the same model. If the previous owner was having trouble, then it may be time to check out the air filter, plugs & maybe a carbie tune. With my bike I don't turn on the petrol, turn the choke on full & hit the button, starts up 99.9% 1st jab. If I turn on the fuel 1st, I have a bugger of a time starting the thing.
