Default Need Some Advice About DIY Engine Rebuild

Hey Guys and Ladies,
Anyway, I need a new engine. I let a hack shop do some welding on the casing to fix a oil leak and he nuked my casing. Now it flakes off in little chucks. So I have searched for a new engine but they are all $600 to $800 including shipping to St. Louis, Mo.

If I take the bike to a shop add about another $1000 in labor. I was thinking about just buying a case off ebay and just rebuild my engine myself. I 've done head jobs, timming chains, and other jobs on engines from HUMMVs to M88 tank recovery vehicles. So I am sure I can rebuild this engine just been a while since I have worked on anything.

Can somebody tell me what manual to use, tools I will need, new gaskets/seal kits, materials, and new hardware kits I will need to remove, rebuild, and install the engine back into my F3.

Thanks

I have a spare engine that ran good, only problem is second d gear in the transmission is gone so that would need replaced. I got pretty much everything from the air box down to the bottom end/transmission. I really have no use for it so I would let go extremely cheap + shipping to u from Ohio. Also when I did my engine and head swap I used the manual you can download off this site, not sure of exact location on here but if you search , it will pop up. As for gaskets, I used cometic.

clymers manual is going to become your new best friend, i'll see if i can find a link to it for you, and just a normal set of handtools will do, the only other tools i would suggest is a piston ring retainer, o-ring spreaders, a good torque wrench, tap & dye set, feeler gauges, and that should be about all, the manual will tell you everything you'll need. This site Stephy G's CBR F4i Page has a pretty good repair manual for the F3 on it, i just downloaded it and check it out enjoy, the Engine section in that manual starts at page 148, it gives you all the specs you'll need for a complete rebuild

Also, When replacing the bearings for the crank and rods, make sure you have the tolerances measured correctly if you can do it, or by a reputable shop, that way you can get the correct color coded bearings.

Thanks guys I decided to buy a motor off ebay. I hope it works well. I already dropped the old motor and began cleaning the frame and swingarm.

Only thing the motor is from Japan and has this box on it next to the oil cooler. I wonder what it is?
