My F3 just started running ****ty....Then Died...Now won't start

Alright......I've had this bike over a year and its pulled similar stunts about two or three times since(every 6months or so).....It would run crapy(once real hot) then when it cools it start right up....That really confused me!!
But now it seems that it doesn't need to get real hot now and it starts pulling that *hit.....
Yesterday it started right up(because its Cold)....But only ran for a few mins then died....like 3-4 mins didn't even really get hot.....
When I check the r/r what am I looking for???12v? A constant voltage??....
I need a volt meter right....where do I hook it up??...to the r/r or where??...
Thanks Everyone!!!

1st rule of chasing a gremlin:
Simple stuff first.Going into the carbs over something like this is like going around the Sun to get to the moon.
Put a garden variety voltage meter on the battery while bike is running. If the voltage looks goos (13-14v) and starts to decline, install a new r/r.Repeat voltage test.
Holla back,yo.

HE NAILED THE PROBLEM RIGHT ON THE HEAD!!!regulator/rectifier!!
The regulator/rectifier is the weak link on alot of CBR's....Check first!!
It's a east fix but finding where the problem was at is the hard part....But with the help of some great people out their, made it so much easier!!!Thanks Again Guys!!!
