Question Mounting Tail Fairing - Help Needed Please

If i was to get an aftermarket undertail, do i still need the OEM rear fender to mount the tail light? Or do i just trim the rear fender and slip the undertail under it? This whole mounting tail section is getting confusing to me lol.. Or should I just buy a rear fender and stay away from aftermarket undertails?

you are going to need the bracket for the 97-98 tail light and the 97-98 rear fender as well
