just a suggestion, how long since your last plug change? I had one foul on me in the middle of a ride and it started doing same thing, ran perfect at lower gears and speeds then was crap 4th above with high rpm, I couldn't even get it over 55mph

i had the coils tested at a motor sports dealer, and their good. i tried bypassing the fuel pump and routing the gas line straight to the carbs, and there is no difference in performance. only thing is i don't know if theres no difference because the fuel pump is bad, or because the fuel pump is only needed when there is a low gas level inside the tank. i'll run it with a low gas level to compare performance and post in awhile. still trying to figure this out

ive noticed that if i push the rpms anywhere past the point where it starts to run funny, i have to let the rpms fall a couple thousand before it starts to run smooth again. like it will run great anywhere below circa 7 of 8k but if i go over 7 or 8k it will give me herky jerky and ill have to let the rpms fall to like circa 5k before it evens out, and i can bring it back up to 6 or 7k no problem. somebody suggested a scorched cylinder wall to my father......
