jet needle question
hi all , in the process of figuring out the cause of my bog out at 6000 rpm from 4th up to top , i have taken the carbs off the bike , and stripped out all the diaphragms and jets , after splitting the needle jet from the jet holder i notice 2 washers , on 3 of the carbs there is 2 washers below the clip on the needle jet , (hope your still with me)and on the 4th there is 1 either side of the clip , can anyone tell me which is right 2 below or 1 either side ,
also one of the carbs the jets are tainted black while all the others are clean brass, no blockages in any ,
hope someone can point me in the right direction cheers in advance

It depends on how the rest if the bike is jetted. Check the size of your mains and your slows. Going by that you will see what stage you set up. Once you figure that out, that will tell you where your needles need to be.
If they are anything other than stick you may need to drill out some holes also.
Download the service manual if you have questions about stock sizes.

hi hamlin6
its not the size of the jets i am after or the position of the needle jet height clip , but just need to know where the seal washers that are on the needle jet go is it 1 above and 1 below the clip or is it both below the clip

cheers hamlin6 set the needle jets up as you said 1 above and 1 below ,just waiting for new inlet clamps then will post back how its running , sure if they were 2 below it will make a difference now its set up properly , cheers
What got my attention was that the setting was not the same in all four. The blackened jet could suggest a flashback on higher revs in the intake. Did you look into the intake too, one would guess there`s soot there too. If the problem persists I`d probly check the valve clearances next cause it feels to me something is letting the fire into the carb and that as you might have guessed is not exactly a good thing. If the valve timing would be that far off the bike would not run at all... AFAIK...
Two below would lift the needles too much and cause it to go rich on full throttle.

That was my thought too concerning the not all being the same. My guess is that it was either a mistake or the PO didn't know how to adjust them properly and that was his way of taking care of it.
hi all , well got the bike back together after a carb clean, still bogs out at 6000rpm, however i thought i would tinker a little more and being as though its only done this since a service , i removed the coils and snipped about 4 mm off the end of the plug lead(coil end) , hey presto running like a dream ,, now where are them twisties , time for a thrash,
thanks for all your help , sure i will be back
