Default insurance info after a crash

i was in an accident thank god my second crash and i walk away with nothing but a bruise on the knee thank god for gear , but the bike is banged up and just i was about to sell it to . i dont even wanna talk about the crash cause the guys insurance is already giving me the run around but im goin to stick with the fight worst comes to worst i may end up in court behind with this guy .

i have a few ?s for people that had accidents before do motorcycle accidents affect your car insurance ? and if i was to win my claim what estimate do they go by to determine how much u receive cause from what i have seen most bikes get written off .do u get blue book value or whatever they feel the bike is worth?

You need to figure out what your bike is worth. If the damage is more than that, it is totalled. However, you may buy it back for considerably less, if it's fixable, and do it yourself for less. Your valuation may be different from theirs, but most insurance companies use a valuation system based on NADA or something like that that you may access online. You should get blue book from them MINUS your deductible if it was your fault. If the other driver was ticketed, he is at fault and you are clear of your deductible. Who is your insurance company? You get what you pay for in that department and I love Progressive b/c they take care of me even though I pay a little more. I don't know about car insurance effects, but I have to assume that an accident where you are at fault would and an accident where you are not at fault would not. It's like hitting a deer... if it's not your fault, they shouldn't make you pay more.

If you have the officer's info, which he should have provided you, he can support the fact that they were at fault for the incident. Hind sight is 20/20 but all you can do is go forward with the lessons from this experience and hopefully not make the same mistakes again. I think getting knocked off your bike is reason enough to forget about a few things.

I don't know if it depends upon which insurance co you have but I have stt frm and a bike claim does not affect my car rates. They were EXTREMELY generous when they gave me the market value of my bike. AND I MEAN EXTREMELY generous.

Anyway, hopefully the accident wasn't your fault as I'm not quite sure how that all plays out. I don't think my rates have ever gone up after an accident. SF has always treated me very well.

technically it shouldn't if you were not at fault .. but "shouldn't" has nothing to do with it unfortunately. It WILL effect rates if you try to switch insurance companies in the next few years. All things being equal, ins. company sees accident on your record and they give you a different rate vs. no accidents. However, if you stay with your current ins. company it probably won't effect rates.

Do what my uncle did, put a dimple in the frame where it wont do any crazy damage and have it totaled out and buy it back from the insurace company for like 300 bucks. Fix the dimple and sell it or use it for parts or sell for parts.
