How to reduce cruising RPM a bit?

I'll have to check again what 7K RPM equates to. I think it may be more than 110 MPH come to think about it.

Will,
at 7K RPM I'm traveling at around 110+ MPH. My gearing is stock.
Your gearing sounds completely out of whack. Check the Honda manual to see what your model should be running, front and rear sprockets. 84MPH at 7K is very low gearing, wheelie heaven, if that's what you're into.

Blimey, so many questions.
I'll set my stall out properly.
I have a 1991 1KF-L. She's an old beast but spritely. I ride every day.
This evening I verified my comments earlier about speed at 7K RPM and yes, it's 113-115 on the speedo. Stock gearing remember.
Given that NV is running a Frankenstein he may have a cart wheel for a back sprocket and not be able to go any smaller for whatever clearance reason.
Why though, are all you guys with newer F4i's and the like telling me you're getting around 85 MPH (in top gear I hope) at 7K RPM?
My red line is 12K and the engine will go there very readily.
Is the F4i red line that much higher that Honda have opted to lower the gear ratio that much.
Let's clear this up, it's bugging me now.

You can only go so big on the front sprocket before clearance becomes an issue. You could try a taller rear tire. In theroy it would lower your RPM at any given speed. If you go with a taller rear tire, do some calculations and make sure its taller. Example would be 160/60 and 170/60. The height is 60% of the first number. So the 170/60 is taller than the 160/60. Hope that helps.

And in top gear about every 1k rpms = 20km/hr
I know at 140km/hr I'm @ 7k.
So I guess you bike can't get anywhere near redline in top gear?
Because if it did redline your bike would be doing 197mph?

Probably about right Jeff.
She's pulled a shade under 170 and at that speed I wasn't looking at the rev counter.
5th gear she'll pull up to 11.5K no sweat and that's a hang on for dear life job.
In 4th I've strayed pst the end of the rev counter.
When we were out riding the other day she managed 105 in second gear and the revs were about on the limit.
Unscientific I know but interesting comparison, old vs new.
A decent F4i would put me to bed so I'm not bragging, just enjoying.
