Default How do I make new paint look good?

I completed putting the literal pieces of my 2 tail fairings back together. After sanding to a smooth finish I primed them resanded them with 2000 grit wet and the painted them with Gloss Black from a spray can. Should i put a coat of clear coat on them? Also the paint is not as "shiny" as I thought it would be ....any suggestions?

Spray can paint is crap. They mix the paint with the clear coat type stuff. Yea spraying some clear on top of it would make it shine better. Also, you can spray the clear, let it dry, sand with 2000 grit, then repeat a couple of times. That should really make it shine. I did the same thing you did and it looks really dull. I'm considering taking my tail piece to maaco. One guy on here said they sprayed his for like $75 I think.

if u do use cans... i suggest u get a high gloss clear and then sand it with 2000 grit and respray

double check that u are getting the right clear coat cuz some clear coats are duller than others... High gloss clear coat comes out kinda OEM ish... KINDA OEMish... (dont get it confused with the quality gloss)

Thanks for the help. I will get Clear Coat today. I have wet sanded the pieces with 2000 grit some. Will wet sanding them some more before I apply the clear coat help?

You dont want to wet sand 2000 before the clear.. you want the clear to adhere.. so if you even have to wet sand the base color.. dont go above 600.

i did a rattle can spray bomb job on mine over the weekend and it didnt turn out too bad. but with a lil spraypainting experience i recomend using duplicolr brand spraypaint and i try to stick to the 500 degree engine paints. these tend to be the most durable. but if u want a high shine and professional look your pretty much gonna have to use a gun with actual paint. remember to tack cloth it before primer tho and in between primer and color coats and color and clear coats. this keeps all the dust off it for a smooth turnout. good luck on your project.
