Default How to bypass fuel pump

Hello everyone,

Has been awhile since I have been on. Well I am having a problem with the ole' F3. She turns over but doesn't start. Cleaned carbs, installed new plugs and wires. I think it is the fuel pump, but by looking at how it is hooked up I do not see how gravity would work out all too well in this situation. I didn't some reading and people were saying to bypass the fuel pump to test if it is bad. Any ideas or diagrams?

When I tested mine, I had some a 90 degree plastic piece I used and clamped it off on both sides with a metal screw clap. Just made sure to shut gas off when it wasn't running. Ran fine until about 70 or so then would starve for fuel.

So I took the hose off the gas tank running to the pump and ran it straight into the engine and my baby started, it just now wont stop blowing smoke out of the tailpipe. I know now I have to buy a fuel pump which is ok, but any way to stop my girl from smoking in the mean time?

Did you check the fuel pump contact? If you take off the black cap on the back of the pump you can visually inspect them. If they are worn or very black you might be able to get away with just replacing them. Also, with the cap off you can see if they are pulsing.

I had to replace the contacts in my pump and after doing that it worked fine.

was it pretty difficult? I am pretty much learning as I go.

Does this look like I need to replace the contacts? I was looking at I Do Dirts how-to

New issue, the bike starts but only with the choke on and doesn't stay running very long to heat up. Any advice on this one?

Since the bike does start, it's not an ignition problem. It has to be air/fuel problems. Did the problems just start happening ? Has the bike sat for any period of time ? How thoroughly were the carburetors cleaned ?

I have cleaned the carbs 100%, I am wondering if it is an idle problem because I have messed with that alot. I have brand new plugs and wires too. ALso my throttle isn't snapping back as fast as it use too, could that be an issue? On a side note I have to keep charging the battery because I drain it trying to start it. Could the battery just not have enough juice?
