How bad is it
Found out my Head gasket went and 2nd gear was slipping. When I dropped the engine and split it this is what I saw. Do you think just a good scrubbing with some carb cleaner will take care of the engine and I already have the replacement Gear dog.

Hard to tell by the pic, but that piston looks damaged. What does the cylinder wall look like? Measure the bore good and check for scoring. It may be time for a motor. Did you happen to check compression before you took it apart?
We knew we had to find the reason for oil in the coolant so we just decided it would be better to rebuild it. Thanks for the tips on checking bore and stuff on it. We plan to almost rebuild the total engine.
Don't remember any scuffs I know the bike had full power before braking it down. I was putting the back fairings on when I noticed the Coolant tank was darker then it should and noticed there was oil in it. From checking on the forums there were 2 places it could be the oil cooler or head gasket well the oil cooler had brand new "O"-rings and looked good which ment the head gasket.
Was there coolant inside the motor oil? Or just oil in the coolant? Not trying to be insulting, just wondering if it could have been the oil cooler, but hell, now thinking about it, if you have second gear problems, why not rip it apart and fix it all anyway. Good luck getting all together, hope it goes smooth.
ok got the pistons cleaned up need more work on the valves. There were no scuffs in the piston chambers they look clean a couple of the valves look pretty beat up and the stamp on them cannot be seen do you think they need to be replaced?
