Bmw bikes are not like these cbr's not even by a long shot. Tuning carbs is alot harder than people think. Even with a carb sync. The k&n filters are better left to fuel injected bikes. A F3 mod already confirmed the stock element is far better than the k&n. Do a little research and you will see answers to your questions about the k&ns and other info. I don't post false info for ****s and gigs

Ok When I had my carbs jetted I removed to front ram air tubs under highlight. Removed all emission crap from her. Even took off the heat tubes going to carbs for cold riding.( Texas ) all I have for air intake is the duct above front wheel. With that set up a stock filter will not allow enough air. I've got the largest jets you can put in carbs thus taking more air and gas with a full Muzzy. It's all synchronized together with the more air the k&n let's threw. Like I said on a stock set up you might be right. On mine the k&n is better hands down. This I know to be fact.

Only way to know its tuned is to take it to a dyno/ or see what your A/F mix is.... you will be suprized. Take the stock filter with you and compare.

When you say the largest jets you can put in carbs, what exactly are you saying ? You can install any jet that fits the threads. Heck, a 180 size jet will screw right in there with no problem at all. I guess I'm not following your point. Help me out here.

my bmw is a car, not a bike. and i was just using it as an example that just because it's a K&N doesn't mean it flows better.

I was under the impression that stage 1 jet kit is all one could get for the f3 carbs. And the largest jets in the stage 1 is the 142. In order to go bigger or stage 2 you'd have to get the f2 carbs. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm going off of what my mechanic told me.

I've seen guys on here "bore" out their jets. Can't remeber what was used. Maybe a small dremel.

all jets can be bought separately,in a variety of size's

as for removing your coolant hose to carbs 2 and 3.these are connected to the cooling system as they do not get as much air flow to them as the two outer carbs.
if the block were to get hot im guessing there would be a transfer of heat to the carburetors with the possibility of affecting the mixture/vapour through the venturi

feel free to put me right,im no mechanic but thats my logical conclusion as to why Honda have the carbs cooled by cooling system.

safe happy riding,

Ant.

Is your CR running stock gearing? My '02 CR250R could only manage 68mph with 13/48 and now I've changed to a 50 rear I'd say I've knocked a couple of mph off. Might try out my phone app I downloaded for checking speed. Just gotta make up a holder and mount. Mostly want to do it for my F3 but now I'm curious about my CR.
