This is such a good thread ... I love to read about other peoples' restorations and rebuilds ... it's interesting and reminds me of when my dad used to show me how to do stuff on the bike, I used to watch mesmerised when he restored bikes and cars :-)

That's ridiculous man, I never thought that someone would tear down their bike just before the season started. Shouldn't you have done this back when it was cold instead of now when I bet all you can think about is riding. I know that I walk to and from class every day and all I want to do is go back to my parent's house and get the bike to go riding (and it's only about 40 degrees at noon here). Only problem is, my parents are about 2 hours away. Oh well, at least if it's warm next weekend I can go home and get my baby.

My brother and I have restored a 68 Mustang and a 63 Chevy Truck. Your comment about refurbishing old cars brings back memories of way TOO many hours of sanding. I have a few pics of those projects... just not digital. My main goal is to keep my bike in great mechanical shape as well as looking nice. I've actually found a lotta things that are on their last leg or have already failed in this spring inspection. The insulators between the carbs and intake manifold were rock hard and split when I took the carbs off. This tear down is mainly for the purpose of keeping the bike around another 10 years

Since I have my carbs torn apart, I went ahead and got a jet kit (Factory). I was wondering if you guys have done this, what were the main jets and needle settings used. I'm running a K&N filter (contiplating BMC) and Two Brothers slip on. Any advice on what to watch out for or words of advice.

My settings for the same jet kit are 138out/140in for the main jets, #4 on the needles, and 1.75 turns on the fuel screws running a k&n and jardine street slip-on...best advice i could give is to read the tuning guide real good and make sure you understand it all.

Thanks for the input kwong. I've read the instructions thoroughly. It's just that Factory calls some of the fuel circuits different names than what Honda calls some of circuits. I know what the pilot screw is, slow circuit, and main jet are and where they are located. I'm not very familiar with the terms mixture screws and fuel screws. I am thinking these are the screw adjustments located on the exterior of the carbs. It's just a couple things like this that I want to clarify
I checked my valve lash last night. I got to say, it was soooooo easy to do when the engine is out of the frame. I had only only valve that was a .001 out of spec on the exhaust side. I don't plan on doing anything about it since it is so close to being in spec. Here are the results.
