fuel delivery?
[align=left] everyday something new....anyways I was riding my bikw down the road and it starts sputtering like its running out of gas so i switch it to reserve and its still sputtering until it stalls. I sit for a couple minutes and it gets me back a little further and stalls then I repeat until i get to my place. im almost sure its out of gas because it is doing everything it would do but i can see some gas at the bottom of my tank and im just confused because it seems like the reserve should have made it last a lil more. can these bikes still have gas in them or can you run them dry? any help thnaks

RE: fuel delivery?
Yes they can as the fuel line feeds from one side and not all the gas can feed down to it...the other problem could be the fuel pump. Apparently the gravity feed is strong enough with enough gas in the tank it flows but as the gas gets lower less pressure and less gas is delivered. I am not 100% sure on that one but that has been quoted here many times. To me if it was the pump you would have noticed it when you were on the highway or using lots of gas at revs at the need for the rate of fuel would be higher. But if you weren't on reserve in the first place then you should have had plenty of gas.
My guess is that you got to the point where reserve is needed but whe you switched over it is not flowing enough gas and that is due to a partially blocked fuel tap. Pull the fuel line and see how much flow you get.
