Well... clean it up with some brake cleaner and just paint around the engine. Maybe scuff the paint up with a brillo pad or some 220 grit sandpaper, and paint away.

Also... I painted my headers with that 1200*F barbeque grill paint, and I must say it looks quite awesome,if you already have your plastics off and are in the painting mood and can afford a 6 dollar can of spray paint I recommend it.

got to Wally world get a can of Stripper(kleen strip) bout $7 a can but if ur bike aint real dirty, it will do whole frame..works great, just follow directions.. I got some plastic trash bags and wrapped everything I could(motor, shock, chain, etc, whatever is exposed..)tape up edge of tank or remove it..tape up ALL serial badges, and frame stickers, or just rub some vaseline, or bearing grease on'em so nothing sticks to them..spray stipper, wait ten minutes, and hit it all with water hose or pressure washer(from a distance, NOT up close), find you a air hose, or a leaf blower(works great, too) blow dry..let everything dry real good, and make sure all bags and tape are still in place and paint with your color of paint... mine turned out great!!

I used a can of textured paint(perferably gray), then went over that with a gloss black....Looks just like its powder coated....spent around $20 at Walmart...

I used Krylon, both kinds, textured and gloss...worked fine for me..I put on about 2 to 3 coats of gloss over the texture, so I wouldnt have to worry about chipping...

I was going to paint my frame before putting the new motor in but my buddy said he did it to his frame and didn't sand it and it chipped that it would be a waste of time unless i stripped the whole bike down, plus i just wanted to ride it SOOO bad i said f it. But can anybody post some pics so i can see how good it looks and if its worth my time and money, cuz i work 7days a week id have to take a day off of work to do it. Appreciate it if possiable.

Silver i heard that thermal wrap cracks or will break the headers some how? I thought it was bull but will it?Mine look like ****.
