F3 Forks - no preload allowed!
Hi,
I just upgraded to F3 forks on my '92 and am having a challenge setting up the fork. I've literally got zero preload dialed into the fork, yet my initial sag is pretty much spot on at 31mm. The forks have been rebuilt with new seals, bushings, and 10 weight oil. The oil level is 120mm down from the top per specifications (i.e. air gap is correct), but I'm unsure of the spring constant since I didn't change springs from those that came in the forks...they are progressively wound and appear to look stock. As an initial setting, the rebound is set two turns out from being fully seated. The forks are straight and do not appear to be binding anywhere.
Many on this forum discuss having the preload set with only 2 lines or less showing on the adjusters. At about 180 lbs. in my gear, I'm not a featherweight and figure I should be needing at least *some* preload to keep from having too much initial sag. Too stiff of a spring in the fork? Other thoughts?
Thanks for your input.
Regards,
