F3 as 1st project bike?
The frame of the bike seems to be in good condition. Needs plastics, seat, headlamp, batt, seat and fuel tank at least. Well it does have the rear. And it hasnt been run in awhile so I may have to do a lil engine work, that doesnt scare me though. I am fairly new to bikes and wonder if it would be worth it. The asking price is very resonable.

i would say it depends on how reasonable the price is and how far you want to take the restoration. I say this just because it doesnt look like you have all the fairing pieces, or a tank, both of which can be pricey to replace. Also does it have a clean title? Straight forks?
in your mind if you think its worth it,get it.i like buying project bike and fixing them up,thats half of the fun, tearing the old stuff off and putting new stuff on it and making it better.(even better if you do your own work).12 k miles, good title(i hope),a complete bike to work with minus the tank.i'd get it.still working on mines wish i had brakes on mines when i bought it.(still dont have front or rear).parts arent cheap though!!!!
Still on the fence. I know I can build it up for way less than I could buy a running f3 but thinking of the time factor rightnow. With a 1 year old son a full time job with odd hours. May not finish before the end of riding season lol
All are very valid points.
The F3 is continually aging and losing value.
I've seen some really good buys in the $1,500.00 range lately needing very little (i.e. tires, & tune-up), and some very nice bikes for aropund $2,000.00.
Fixing up a bike can be done easily, but when done correctly it usually doesn't save any money from just buying a nice one to begin with.
Especially when you factor in all the time you put into it.
