Default F2 motor in an F3?

I have an opportunity to get an F2 motor in good shape with under 20k on it for a great price. i have a 96 F3 with a blown engine and was wondering if it'll fit my bike. I am pretty sure it will, but I just wanted to double check. I still have the carbs from my F3 and also a head from it that is in good shape. should I use the carbs from my F3? What, if any, are the differences between the two motors?

Your speed sensor wont have a place to screw in.

hmm, really? Is there any way to modify that. I was under the impression that the F2 and F3 engines were the same except for the top end. I knew the F3 has the electric speedo unlike the F2. Is there a solution to this? I really want to get this engine. The guy is willing to sell an F2 that he messed up for $450 with a good running engine and lots of sellable parts. The wheels, tires, brakes, bars, lights, carbs, seat, gauges, forks, rear shock ect. are all in fine shape. he just messed up all the fairings. I figure I can come close to getting my money back parting all of that out on ebay and keep the engine for myself.

Why not keep the F2 and put your F3's bodywork on it, and part out your F3?

Get the F2 and part it out. Now.Orrrrrrr, give me his number and I'll nab it.

Don't let that get away.Call me for what parts you want to sell and I'll help you move them. Then take your money and get another F3 motor.

There is quite a lot of difference between an F2 and F3 engine, the cylinders are a differnt size for one not to mention the direct ram air system.
I would buy the F2 engine then flog it on ebay for a profitand buy an F3 engine.

the F2 is quite messed up. he got hit by a truck. My F3 has a clean title and is in great shape. My F3 is perfect except for the blown engine, The F2 is missing quite a few parts, airbox, tank, all fairings. I am gonna check it out today and make him an offfer. I'll let you guys know.

when I bought my f3 the guy said it has an "f2 race motor in it...." he said it had upgraded cams, bigger carbs..advanced timing, and few other things done to it. Sooo if what he says is true, then yes the f2 motor works in the f3 body. But like said on here, the speedo does not work, which sucks...but just keep with the flow of traffic as much as possible and you'll be fine...or downgrade the front end of your f3 to and f2 and you will be able to make the speedo work
