Bringing an old thread back to life. I recently bought an f2 that has an f3 motor and and i do not think it has the fuel pump because the bike shuts off at high revs. How would i go about remedying this problem?

EDIT:

Just re-read the thread. It doesn't seem like there should be any issue at all unless you were doing VERY long pulls at WOT. Post #9

The reason for the fuel pump is the ram air on the F3.The fuel pump provides about 3-4 psi extra flow.Long pulls in 4th gear will run the carbs dry, causing the bike to shut down.Ask me how I know, found this out the hard way.

F3 petcock is a nice upgrade.

The fuel pumps rarely fail,it's the ignition-style points inside that wear out. K&L makes a replacement part for them.

F2 and F3 tanks are identical except for the paint schemes.

Hope this helps

Are you saying an f2 will dry out in 4th or a f3?
I have a F2 and have no probs with power in any gear at any rev range.
Why is the gravity feed a better option?
I'm confused

Is it just the F3 motor? Or does it have the F3 carbs, harness, CDI, airbox and "ram air" also?

but was the f2 motor at a steeper angle making fuel flow easier to the carbs or the tank shaped a little different
The DAI system on an F3 provides pressurized air to the air space in the float chamber. This pressure helps fuel get into the jets, but also will push back against the fuel being allowed in by the float needle. Honda added a low pressure fuel pump to overcome that pressure and prevent fuel starvation at high speeds and RPM's.
