Default Electrical power loss

Hello, I got a CBR600f3 last summer (first motorcycle!). A few months after buying it, I accidentally killed it at a stop light. Went to start it, and there was little power (it just barely turned over, not enough to start). Replaced the battery, and then didn't ride it much in the winter. This spring, I notice that it still spontaneously loses power. I will go to get gas, and will have to push start it. Other times it works fine. Also, if I push it, it runs fine, and all the lights work. If I drive even for a few minutes, sometimes it will begin starting reliably again.

Do any of you know what part might be causing this? I am hesitant to say alternator, because it seems to be able to charge up back and operate normally very quickly sometimes.

Thanks for the help!

grab a service manual, either hard copy or online, there's a link in a new thread. Usually in the flowcharts you can find whats wrong. A few places to start would be the connection at the main fuse, it's a red plug under your seat, and in front of your battery box, check for corroded terminals, also your voltage regulator/rectifier might be bad. I don't know everything there is to know about these bikes yet, but between everyone on here, we'll get to the bottom of your problem

I agree it sounds like a corrosion problem or a broken wire. Sometimes heat can cause the problem to show up. Since it still runs fine with push starting I would say that it is charging. A volt meter can verify that very quickly though.

Hey thanks I really appreciate the help. One thing I have noticed is that it seems to be more likely to happen after significant amounts of riding (45min+). Maybe that contributes to the heat theory.

I'll check out that connection under the seat, and also the manual. I wish there were an easy way to test the voltage regulator, but I'm guessing not? Especially since it's an intermitant issue.
