Default dumb question

Hey I have a dumb question? I have heard that on older carberueted cars one of the ways to fix em when they were running rough was to go out and run the holy hell out of the car to burn the crap out of the carberuetor. Could someone do this to a bike by maybe just reving the heck out of it in neutral for a few minutes or is it just a waste of effort. Please no flames just bored and cant sleep. Im thinking that its a heck of a lot easier than a carb clean if it dont tear nothing up.

try seafoam first, if your just looking for a cheap thing to try

I wouldn't rev it like that. but I'm not gonna lie I have been known to drive down the road and give it a good workout before. Didn't help anything, just made me feel better

Yup, you can pick it up at basically any autoparts store. Cost's around ten bucks

seafoam is usually about 10 bucks at walmart. i use 1/3 of it a tank.
runs a little smoky if you have a large buildup.

you can use that stuff in almost everything in your engine.

I think that's rubbish. Just check the jets are clear and if it's going to sit for a while drain the carbs - unfortunately not so easy with fairing clad, compact, multi cylinder bikes.

I think from his other post, He has wrecked his bike. Could be why he is asking about this stuff, He probably has oil smoke and simple stuff wrong with the carbs from it being laid over.

dunno for sure, but it was my guess

Ah, I see what you mean.

If oil is in the airbox then it needs cleaning out, possibly replacing the filter or cleaning/re-oiling if K&N type, then just running the bike will get rid of the bits you couldn't get to but not revving the **** off it especially if unsure why it's smoking.

The rag it to clear it was from the very old days when engines generated a lot of coke and deposits. I also believe it has to be under load as well. Bit like clearing a 2 stroke dirtbike. But a modern 4 stroke shouldn't need it. I'd also recommend against high revs in neutral for any reason because unless the limiter is very harsh it may not stop it from over rev and you can't trust the tacho or your hand to react fast enough under no load.

lol. I don't think it works good for cars either, Just makes you feel better thinking you showed it who was the boss....

Other than my F3 which I bought with the carbs bad I have never had too much carb problems. Don't let that scare you away from a carb bike they can be very reliable if maintained correctly, the worst thing you can do to a bike or a car either one is to let it set. honestly higher mile bikes tend to be better bikes with less problems then one that is 16 years old with 6k miles on it.
