Cuts out when throttle applied
same bike that was knocked over by my roommate. the crank cover doesn't leak, thanks to jbweld. ha.
now, the bike starts up great, runs well at idle, but when i accelerate heavily in gear, it sputters and and then launches forward before sputtering again. what would this be?\
it's definately something electrical, i had it in park, and upon revving, the lights would dim and the bike would make a put put put noise and refuse to idle up. something must be shorting.

does this also sound like a bad rectifier?
i can ride my bike fine as long as i don't get on the gas too hard, but when i try to accelerate heavily, the bike sputters a bit.

sounds like regulatorwhen you said headlgihts dimming.check the wiring see if its faulty. thats what happendwith mine. got wiring harness replaced and everything was fine.
yeh, i'm thinking it's just a short at a switch i installed, which was hit a bit when it was knocked over. this forum is proving to be far more helpful than cbrworld. ha
Probably the R/R. Get you a GSXR600 R/R and be done with it. Even if it isn't your problem it will solve a future problem and you can move on from there.
What's happening is the R/R isn't putting out a lot of power(Or any) and you are running off straight alternator(Which doesn't do much on a bike) andyour spark isn't that hot so your fuel isn't burning properly.

GSXR R/R? Is this a replacement for the stock Honda part? I replaced my R/Rlast spring with a newer version from a Blackbird. It has larger fins (heatsink) so it won't overheat. However, I am having a similar problem, but without the dimming lights. BUT, the 1 year old battery doesn't seem to get fully charged either. Same problem you think, or some other electrical gremlin? Replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter as well and cleaned the carbs.
So after doing some more reading, it seems that it is probably my R/R. Must check the voltage to see if it is working. In the event it is not, recommendations? I saw the post about the GSXR part, anyone got a number... or suggestion on other upgraded R/R?
my problem was faulty wiring and when i would accelerate too hard, it would pull wires at a bad solder and short out.
also, the main fuse blew and for some reason didn't kill the bike? but when i replaced the fuse, it stopped making the put put noise at idle.
