Default Custom Paint or keep Stock?

This is an opinion question. Please feel free to discuss...

What would be better for future re-sale? Custom Paint job or medium ratty Stock color scheme?

I'm thinking that full custom will draw a lot of questions about why? and so forth, whereas a stock outer shell with some fairly nasty rash would not be too much of a drawback.

What say you all?

nastalgic guys like the original scheme. but an all 1 tone paint job really catches the eye. really shows off the body and its lines with lighter colors.

I like my bikes original, but I have seen some solid paint on the CBR's & if their done well, can make the bike look fantastic. May as well go custom as it sounds like your going to do repairs anyway & besides, a potential buyer would appreciate a nice new paint job. Lets face it, if you where going to restore it to original, you would be painting it anyways.
Nothing says "This bikes going cheap" more than a rattle can paint job

Naturally there are a lot of variables to consider when you're thinking about painting. I think mostly it should be what you want.
  • How long are you going to keep it ?
  • Do you care about resale value ?
  • What year and color scheme are you thinking of ? (some are better than others)
  • How good is the paint job going to be ?
  • If you go factory color, will you be putting the original decals back on ?
Factory colors usually fetch higher resale prices. If you're going to keep it a long time, then it doesn't matter about resale value. Some factory color scheme's are better than others.

My preference that doesn't count for anything would be to go back with original colors and decals. I like to hear, "man, that is a great looking F3" rather than "what's that".

My current thinking is custom paint- but with original-like decals.

In other words almost like an OEM scheme but in colors (that look professional) similar to factory.

While shopping for the bike I ran into some nasty colors... to the degree that all you could think was, "What was he thinking?"

Depends on the paint scheme. I generally shy away from custom paint ... custom paint = rebuilt crashed bike.

If I wanted a rebuild, I'd get it cracked up and do it myself

+1 All around, but the bolded part especially. I LOVE getting that!
