Cracked engine casing
Hi everyone,
I have been trying to track down the source of my oil leak for the last few days, it seemed to be coming from one of the mounting bolts on the alternator cover but i just took it off again and found what i think the problem is.
See attached pic.
Is this as bad as i think it is?
can anyone recommend a workshop in the south east of england (surrey preferably) that might be able to help me out?
Thanks

Not sure what you may have over there in the form of a hardware store, which is what we call it here in the states or any kind of home improvment store. JB Weld is the name of the product. It's like a liquid weld or super glue for metal/steel thats very strong. If you can't find anything over there like that, let me know and I'll see about trying to get some out there to you.

JB Weld needs about 24 hours to fully cure. It's important that the area that you're applying it to is clean and free from oil. Use something like carburetor cleaner on the area (be careful not to get it places it shouldn't). It's very viscus and will get down into the crack and help get the oil out. The carburetor cleaner drys rapidly and doesn't leave a residue. After its dry, you can then apply the JB Weld. The JB Weld is kind of thick like warm peanut butter. But during the curing time it will have a tendency to flow. Try to get the motorcycle in a position that's not going to have the JB Weld wanting to flow away from the area you're trying to patch. Also don't let it dry against that allen head bolt or you won't be getting that one out anytime soon. Good luck and keep us posted.
