cooling fans on F3?
i have a 1997 Honda CBR F3, and when i turn the key to the on position, the fans automatically come on, are they supposed to do that, or are they supposed to wait until a certain temp?
thank you in advance

i was looking at my wiring diagram, the fans are wired in to the temp sensor and also into the ignition, kinda like a back up to insure they go on. i just rewired mine to a manual switch.
btw stock fans are junk, swap out for a high output computer fan, much better flow

Wait till temp builds up.....
but they have a relay and sensor, and what I would say happened is some point in time one of yours has went out and someone bypassed it and ran the fans straight off key switch. If your temp hand on gauge cluster still works then I would say the relay has gone bad..
you should look into what the problem could be and have it fixed, bikes really need to warm up to a decent temp before you ride them

could i get some info on this? my stock fan doesnt EVER come on. im going to try to get a look at it tonight, but im not sure if i can make time. ill pull the connector and see if it works at all, but obviously if its the fan some replacement info would be awesome. ill check the stickies now to see if there is anything on it in there...
thanks
Grant
give me a sec and ill get a diagram up for you, when i replaced my fan, i used a computer fan becuase its bolts right up. did an inline switch that way i can turn it on when i want it to be on.
remember when your sitting your getting minimal airflow. so you want that fan to be on.

i checked last night, and with the key on and the bike warm it is getting power. so, time for a new fan. seems like the wires are doing their part, so i will stick with shotgun trouble shooting and replace the probable cause. i despise wires, and from waht i read the fan is most likely the issue... *fingers crossed*

im going to apply 12vdc straight to the fan motor tonight to see if the fan operates. it hasnt run once since i bought the bike in feb (didnt start riding it until early april) so then i will know for sure if its the fan. my guess is the fan is toast. now i just need to know what computer fan to find... i am assuming a power supply fan? seems kind of small from the factory one to me, and may even be enough space to fab up two fans, one on a switch and one wired factory style...
anyone have a part number or picture?
