Coolant Lines to Cyl Head
I have a cbr600 out of a wrecked 1998. I'm installing it in a small formula car. I have a few coolant lines that I don't know what to do with.
There are two small ports on the water pump. Anyone know what they need to be hooked up to?
There are two ports on the cyl head also. I'd guess that these would hook up to the ports on the water pump, but I'm not sure, and I've been told that somehow or other I am supposed to hook in a set of coolan lines to the carb.
I'd sure appreciate it if someone could set me straight on this.

Im not exactly sure but if you go to bike bandit they have schemetics you can pull up and see hopefully where the lines go if that dont help i have another motor in garage that may help. But what kind of car are you putting the motor in to cuz i just swapped out my motor and i am now rebuilding the other and realy wanted to buy some kind of frame and build something stupid fast like the ARIEL ATOM if you know what it is if not look it up its awesome put ive been looking for a compatiable frame you got any info on this kind of project
The one off the very top of the valve cover goes into the factory air box. The lines on the back side are for the cooling system. There are several coolant lines on the back side of the head there. I'll try my best to describe this. The small line on thelower portion of the water pump goes to the rightside of the carbs. The outletleft side of the carbs goes to thethermo-valve which was was held in place with the bolt that secures the starter motor. From there, it goes into the input right behind the thermostat. The upper smaller hose on the water pump goes straight to the input on the left side of the head. Hope I was clear enough.
Hope I was clear enough.
Bottom port on WP goes to carbs then through Thermovalve and into thermostat housing.
Top port on WP goes straight to left side cyl. head.
We are talking standard left/right? Where right is (as in a car) on the passenger side?
Any problem by-passingthe plumbing to the carbs? I assume it is just for carb heat in cold weather?
What is the point of the left side line going from WP to cyl. head? Is it just to ensure some circulation to the head when the thermostat is closed?
I know the car you are talking about. Waay to expensive for my budget.
Here is a pic of the car I am working with:

This is what is called a Formula 500. When I'm done, I expect the car to come in at right around 700 pounds. You can find lots of info about these cars at www.f500.org, orbetter still at www.eformulacarnews.com Look for the section on Formula 500. You can usually find a cheap old chassis that can be bought and modified to suit your tastes. There are a few guys, including myself who are making the swapto motorbike power in these cars.
Here are a couple oflinks to a Formula 500 swap job that is STUPID fast even by Ariel Atom standards. It's very cheap by comparison too.

It's not the most refined car, but the guy isn't done with it yet. Lots of potential for fun there.

You will find tons of info on Motorcycle engine cars. The discussion on Formula D cars should giveyou lots ofbackgroundinfo.

From that V shaped plastice piece between carbs 1 & 2, the line then goes to the thermo-valve and then from there to the thermostat housing.
Top port on WP goes straight to left side cyl. head.
